QUEEN’S QUAY RETREAT
Interior renovations in a waterfront condo unit
PROJECT SUMMARY
Our clients purchased a two storey condominium unit facing the waterfront, and asked for our help to develop their Master Bedroom suite. They had a succinct brief: “to achieve a luxury lakehouse that is casual in layout with moments of craftsmanship that can contrast against the rough industrial shell of the existing space.”
The project scope included carving out space for a convertible living room/guest bedroom as part of the Master Bedroom, creating new custom millwork for closetry and to rationalize some of the HVAC build-outs that came with the space, and fitting out the Master Ensuite.
We disguised a heat pump that was placed like a column in the middle of the room by incorporating it into a headboard/dressing table wall. It was important to us to physically separate the sleeping space from the areas of getting ready. We find it always is more peaceful for our clients to have beds that don’t face doors and closets and architectural elements that remind them of action.
We introduced a multi-slide pocket door to separate a living room from the sleeping area, so that it could be used as a secondary guest room if required. The Master Ensuite was conceived of as a space that could bit more playful and dramatic. We layered different materials in large swathes across the space to create a bold collage of wood veneer, black pearly mosaic tile, exposed concrete structure, dichroic mirror glass, and aqua mosaic tile that blends into the lake beyond.
