Our clients initially came to us with a request to build a third floor expansion of their four square home in Bloor West Village. With three children and one bathroom upstairs, space was tight with overlapping schedules. However, as the design process unfolded, what we all realized was that a giant expansion of the third floor would eventually be too much house for this family. Instead, smaller sensitive additions were proposed - infilling a portion of the front porch to create a new dining room, expanding a bay window on the second floor to grab a few more square feet in the front two bedrooms, and creating a new second floor addition at the back of the house, which creates a covered porch for the deck below.

Our clients wanted a renovation that was lively, comfortable, and colourful; the finishes and fixtures chosen were all meant to compliment their great sense of style while remaining extremely functional. The kitchen was moved to the center of the ground floor plan, anchored between the living room with a new wood burning fireplace and two different seating areas, and the new dining room at the front of the house. The kitchen uses a palette of blues, creamy quartz, and oak wood accents to give it a rich, textured feel.

Upstairs, a new ensuite master bathroom was inserted into the floor plan, which uses a palette of inky blue tiles, mosaic-style flooring, white penny round wall tile, and honed black caesarstone. A large skylight was added above, punching through the attic floor and bringing sunlight into the middle of this floor plate.
